Elinor Paul – nee Ritchie- was born in 1858 and died in her 88th year on 17 July 1943. She married Herbert Paul, a barrister, journalist, historian and Second Civil Service Commissioner. He was briefly a liberal M.P. for Edinburgh and then for Northampton. They lived in London (Tite Street) and had a country retreat, Cherry Orchard, Forest Row, Sussex.
There were two children of the marriage, Humphrey and Beatrix.
Beatrix was married in 1911 to Algernon Hyde Villiers (referred to as Algy in the diaries) son of Sir and Lady Francis Hyde Villiers, British minister to Brussels and nephew of the Earl of Clarendon. There were two children of this marriage, Charles and Theresa.
