New Herts Memories Website

Welcome to the new look Herts Memories website!

We are delighted to unveil the new Herts Memories website.  The original site was created in 2009, which means the site was beginning to show its age!  The new site still has the same content, but also a new section which we hope you’ll find helpful.  On the home page you’ll find a new layout: three rows of picture links.  The top row will take you to all memories, photos and local history that was in the original site. The second row takes you to the other sites in the network and the third row contains advice and information.

What’s New?

On the new WordPress site, you will find advice and information for community history groups and projects, sources of funding, news and events, so if you’re planning a project, it’s well worth a look!

Links to the other websites within the Herts Memories network can be reached via the tabs at the top of the home page and you searches in the Herts Memories main site and entire network have been given their own search box.  There’s also a bright new colour scheme.

All the websites in the network are run by small teams of volunteer editors, who are trained and supported by staff from Herts Libraries and Heritage Services.    Within the network there are six town/district websites which include some of the newer communities such as Hatfield, Stevenage and Oxhey. There are also two project websites – one relating to past policing (hertspastpolicing.org.uk) and one exploring the history of mental health (stalbansoutofsightoutofmind.org.uk).  Over the coming months, these sites will also be migrated to the new style website.

Perhaps you’d like to get involved behind the scenes…..

We are currently looking for volunteer editors for Our Stevenage, Our Dacorum and Our Hertford & Ware.  Why not come along to Stevenage Central Library on Tuesday June 30th between 10 – 3 and find out more. There are types of roles we are looking for. You can either be involved as a Website Editor (publishing articles and comments, organising the site, etc),  or as a Content Creator (researching and publishing your own articles), or you could combine both roles. Free training is provided and no experience is required. If you are interested, please contact Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies via hertsdirect@hertfordshire.gov.uk
