  • I have fond memories of ‘Granny Budd’. Before I even started school she taught me to wink – much to my Dad’s disgust! She was always full of mischief, much to the delight of myself and the frustration of my parents. I was often at Howgate as my Gran (Nellie Mott) was the ‘relief matron’ for Middlesex homes and, when not needed elsewhere, she had a room at Howgate, which was near her daughter (my mother) as we lived in Potters Bar.
