I do remember that he always sat and did the times crossword during the break.he was always fully made up with his lipstick, rouge and sometimes nail varnish. He always wore a g-string [the only model that did] he also always had a large white, rather grey actually, tucked in to the elastic of his g-string. He was an amazing model. He could hold a pose for ages without moving a muscle. Once he was even balanced on two chair legs.

The week after the naked civil servant came out everyone was so excited that he was so famous. I don’t remember him ever talking to students. I think we were all a bit intimidated by him, but knew there was something special. I don’t think that is the right word -he had a presence.

I think back now and we were privileged to have been there at that time and to have drawn such an amazing person.

  • Well who knew? Not me for sure.

And a great example of how the erosion of our language. For once I’m prepared to except that Quentin Crisp can be justifiably described as “amazing”. However since this is the adjective of choice for every Instagrammed muffin it has lost its value.

    How about “inimitable” or “iconoclastic”.
