By Charlotte Jordan

During the 1840s, Adela Capel was one of three children within the household of Cassiobury, and daughter of Arthur Algernon Capel, the sixth Earl of Essex. She and her brothers had a governess named Miss Smart, who tutored and cared for them.

Featuring on our website will be one year of Adela’s life from her personal diary, a section from each month when she was either 13 or 14. These snippets will be published onto Herts Memories on the corrosponding month to the diary.
