My 2nd great grandfather was sexton for this church “WIlliam Jeffs” late 1800s …lived in church street , newspaper articles of him finding a person hanging from the belfry tower , even after his passing when the next sexton sadly died a year later it was commented in the newspaper showing how much respect the church had for my grandfather saying he was the most punctual man to work for them … fascinating grave yard to look round with george edward doney – bought in slavetrade since a child from gambia – come to uk aged 16 to serve earl of essex who was very fond of him to errect a grave for his servant …inside of church is also fascinating …
