Happy memories

The images bring back memories of family outings at the weekend.  The train is a well loved feature of Cassiobury Park it runs at the weekend for the enjoyment of children and all those young at heart! My family, like many in Watford have happy memories of going to the park to play, and as a special treat enjoying a ride on the train. The  photograph was taken winter 1980.

Cassiobury Park in Watford celebrates 100 years as a public park this year (2009.) It is a beautiful park and has won the Green Flag award recently.

  • The Cassiobury miniature railway opened in Spring 1959. There were 2 locomotives, 1 petrol and 1 steam. In 1968, after selling the railway, only the petrol locomotive remained and the steam locomotive was re-sited to Devon. There are quite a few locomotives used in Cassiobury now (2023). The regulars are: Conway Castle, Nikki Lousie, Densil, Marri, Chiltern Shuttle.

  • Aww, how sweet! I think the exact same train is still there, which is slightly worrying…

  • How cute! I have happy memories of Cassiobury Park taking my son and friends to play especially the paddling pool.
