Hoddesdon Car Boot Sale.
R.I.P.
By Alan Fox
Hoddesdon Car Boot ceased to run after 2009, the reason being works were being done on the outside of the clock tower and the car park itself. The car boot moved to the school on the other side of the road for a short time, until it was done. The last time I heard, the car boot was not back under the Clock Tower car park or under the Clock Tower itself, due to health and safety regulations, though this is hearsay.
I went there on and off for eleven years, and it was the boot sale everyone went to in the autumn and winter months. There were many reasons why it was stopped. The local authorities didn’t want a local fairground at Rye Park, so the organisers moved to the town centre, due to a 200 year-old law.
At the time the boot sale stopped, it was bringing trade to the town on a Sunday morning, and could do again.
