The unusual cottages on Birds hill were built for Heatly Gresham, and engineering firm that made bodies for London taxi cabs. The mansard roofs gave the cottages a nickname of ‘Noah’s Ark cottages’. In the early 1980’s they were refurbished.

  • As the two photographs are of totally different parts of Bird’s Hill they do not show how Bird’s Hill has changed. The Dunkerley-designed mansard cottages (nos 2-40) (bottom photo) were 1905 Exhibition cottages and the Parker & Unwin group at the corner of Ridge Road (top photo) were built a year later.
