Fun in the water

Children enjoying the water

Here is a photo of children in 1931 playing around in one of Letchworths playing areas. The paddling pool was created in 1930, and children often used to dance around the fountain.

Do you have any memories of playing here as a child you would like to share? Or any images that you would like to contribute?

  • Yes I can remember having many a summer’s fun in the paddling pool. I particularly remember the fountain. We would often try climbing up it, despite its green and sliminess. Sadly I have to report that it has now been removed. Which is very sad as we have a photo of me somewhere standing close to it in my sodden old woollen swimming trunks. Many years later I managed to stage a similar shot with my then young son.
