Soldiers of WW1

The Territorials leaving Letchworth Station

By Gill Clements

Troops leaving circa 1914

A fascinating picture of local men leaving Letchworth.

Do you recognise anybody here? Perhaps one of your ancestors joined up to go to war.

  • Hi Dan Hill. I. See from your comments re WW1 that you are researching names For serving soldiers.
My paternal family come from Letchworth and Worked at Letchworth Hall inthe late 1800s to 19?
Their name was South. William George would have been 31 in 1914. I dont know if he would have been too old to serve. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.

  • My Grandfather was in WWI. Although I cannot see his face in the photo I am interested in your future book. I’m not sure if I can add anything vis-a-vis my Grandfather and WWI but I would be willing to try if contacted.

  • Hi Gill, Although I can’t name the men by face, I am researching the soldiers of Letchworth who served in the Great War for a book I’m writing and could provide a list of the men who would be in that picture and some info on them if you are interested? Perhaps someone could match a face to a name (I could maybe name a few based on other photos I have). Regards, Dan
