The Old Workhouse

This row of cottages in Church End, Redbourn was the old workhouse, also called Church Terrace and Sweep’s Row. ‘Chummy’ Sinfield was the village chimney sweep, and the sign of his brush can just be seen over his door at the end of the row.  This is how the road looked in the 1920’s and ’30’s.
