  • I lived in Watton-at-Stone till 1970 and I recognize that road as being the dip in the hill to the entrance of bardolphs farm On the ware road just coming out of Watton-at-Stone

  • I don’t think this is the A602 as from Heath Mount School it is downhill and views of Watton can be seen. I also doubt it is the wall that borders the Hertford Road A119 as the only homestead’s next to the Heath Mount school are the game keepers house. The brick post on the left also does not correspond with the front of Heath Mount.
Watton-At-Stone has a long brick wall associated with the land next to the nursery, but it also rises uphill, and so doesn’t fit.

  • This is not Ware road Watton as there is a house on the bottom right corner there has not been a house there

  • I thought it was near Heath Mount school as soon as i saw it, It is one of the few places that has a continuous long brick wall like that.

  • Could this be taken in St Albans at the end of Lower Dagnall Street near the junction with New England Street, looking at Mount Pleasant, with the bricky on the right hand side?

  • I think Sue is spot on. With Bardolph’s farm in the background and the distinctive kink in the brick wall near the man and his dog, this is clearly looking down towards Watton at Stone on the A602. Little has changed since (circa) 1905/1910 although a large fir tree now stands just in front of the kink in the wall. Heath Mount School did not, of ciourse, come onto the scene until the early 1930’s.

  • Many thanks. I’ll attach it to Watton at Stone

  • I could be very wide of the mark…but this looks to me like the A602 just before Heath Mount School travelling towards Watton-at-Stone.
