Working at Letchworth Library

Letchworth library

By Viv Birch

I started working at letchworth Library in November 1984. Veronica Bridges was the branch librarian and we had just moved over to a computerised issue and return system which replaced the paper card issuing system (Brown) I started as the Jackman’s librarian on the Jackman’s estate in Letchworth focussing on services to young people and the elderly. Jackmans library closed in 2006.

In 2009 Letchworth Library was refurbished, a new local history area was created, Wi-fi introduced, the number of computers for public use increased to 10. We also introduced a new state of the art kiosk system where the public could issue and return their own items much more speediy. The library looked lovely with its resurfaced floor and redecoration.
