This is Waterend House, Waterend Lane, Wheathampstead. The view is prior to the demolition of most of the barns which constituted the farm and the removal of the large barn, just out of sight to the right, to St Albans to become the "Waterend Barn" restuarant. A beam in the bedroom behind the upper middle window in the picture has "1610" carved into it. The room behind the window middle left has, or had in the 1950's, a plate glass panel above the fireplace behind which were a number of obviously very old initials in charcoal one of which was "SJ" reputed to be that of Sarah Jennings who subsequently became the first Duchess of Marlborough.
