Race for Life
By Vanessa Lacey

Race for Life Organised by Cancer research UK this event is the largest woman only fundraising event in the UK. It takes place between May & July and participants can choose to walk jog or run the 5k course. All the money raised goes towards fighting Cancer.

Where to run

The races are run in various venues in Hertfordshire, the atmosphere on the day is special, everyone who takes part feels very emotional, all are doing it because Cancer has affected their lives in some way and many write who they are running for and why on their backs so that as you run or walk you read the messages and many tears are shed, but in spite of that the experience is not to be missed and the memory is an uplifting one.

I have watched members of the family at Cassiobury Park in Watford running in memory of my mother and with a large family group I completed the 5k course at Fairlands Valley Park in Stevenage the images are from both venues.

Comments about this page

I ran the Race for Life a few years ago. I had to train to get fit enough to do it, which was a struggle, but I have kept up the running and am pleased to say that I am now probably the fittest I have ever been. It was a lovely experience and I think everyone who does it has their own reason to be there and feels pleased at their achievement, I certainly was.
