Pirton's Village Website

By Jonty Wild

The village of Pirton has its own website which provides access to details of the events and organisations within the village.  Perhaps of more interest to the readers of the Hertfordshire Memories website it provides excellent access and facilities to research the history of the village

It includes the Pirton ‘Archive (full name the Pirton Historic Photograph and Document Archive) which contains literally hundreds of photographs to peruse, many of which are the result of a unique collaboration with Hitchin Museum, for which we are very grateful.

The website editor, Jonty Wild, would welcome the opportunity to add any new documents, photographs or information that can be made available for copying, photographing or scanning (references can be made available).    Jonty Wild is also chairman of the Pirton Heritage Support Group(*1) so the two organisations work closely together.  He is also one of the authors of The Pride of Pirton – Pirton’s definitive book on the men from the village that served and died in the Great War.  Both the PHSG and The Pride of Pirton have pages on the Hertfordshire Memories website.

*1 The aim of the PHSG is to “conserve, preserve, record and where possible, to make the history of Pirton accessible to Pirton residents and other interested parties”.   Further details at www.pirton.org.uk/phsg
