Sophie Gresswell
Resident at Hitchin Library from September to December 2021
Sophie Gresswell is a multi-disciplinary artist using spoken word, painting, audio and digital technology to explore identity and belonging and her work sits perfectly within the participatory ethos of My Story and co-creation of artwork inspired by lived experience.
Sophie works internationally and has more recently been working with local communities to create public artworks, which include a responsive public art and audio installation entitled ‘Luton Journeys’ along building hoardings in Luton and projected art installations for The Dunstable Centre library space.
Every envelope tells a story!
For Sophie’s residency at Hitchin Library, she worked alongside local people to develop the theme Every Envelope Tells a Story and created an engaging interactive exhibition around identity, place and our interconnecting stories.
People of all ages contributed to the project. Sophie held workshops with local primary school children and art students as well as an evening with Hitchin Art Club. Hitchin Library users were invited to join in too during a series of drop in sessions in the library.
