Arts Industry Heritage at St Katharine’s Church
We are fortunate at St Katharine’s Church to have fine examples of the embroidery skills of the needle women at The Arts Industry.
Moving on to Olney and Newbury
After 1916 embroidery, needlework and metal work continued to be carried on in Ickleford for a while under the direction of Mr. Witter’s personal assistant
Relics & Memories in Ickleford Today
St Katherine’s Church has its banners and candlesticks. The churchyard is the final resting place of the families involved in Arts and Crafts in our village.
The Developing Business
Every year an exhibition of students’ work was held at the workshops and items were sold to friends, family and neighbours.
The Exhibitions & Examples of Work
A few words about the exhibition. The metal work is done in copper, brass, pewter, and iron (with often a mixture of metals which has a pleasing effect), and there is a certain amount of garnishing with stones and mother-of-pearl.
