Thursday 30th September 1841

Rose at 7. After Breakfast stayed with Grandmama and let her Canary and mine out in the room. I am trying to tame a Golfinch. I hope I shall succeed. In the afternoon Miss Smart did not go out it was so wet, so I took Fairy in the Flower garden.

Friday 1st October 1841

Rose at ½ past 7. After Breakfast went down to Balie’s to see about another Goldfinch. The other one is dead. I waited for its arrival and recieved it. After dinner took Fairy about the lawn. Miss Smart and Mr Cavie [came], we had quite a rendezvous. 

Saturday 2nd October 1841

Rose at ½ past 7. We have a whole Holiday today because it is Reginald’s Birthday. He is eleven. During the morning I went first to Balie’s, then to the farm and lastly in the garden. Fairy came with me in Mama’s garden I caught 3 very pretty Butterflies. I let 2 go and the other I put under a case, it was so handsome.
