January 5 1915
Humphrey has now become a Member of the Inns of Court Reserve Corps and drills there three times a week.
January 26
Letter from Beatrix describing being met at Cairo by a deputy from Algy who took her to Abbassia where he met her in a nice doctor’s house. She is to be a paying guest there till they get married quarters together.
Wednesday February 4
The Turks in considerable force have attacked Suez Canal in places. Completely routed – not by the Herts Yeomanry thanks be.
February 18
Humphrey to my great surprise told me that Colonel Baring was offering Algy a Commission in the Lothian and Border Regiment. I am sorry they should leave Egypt and be quartered at Edinburgh in bitter March weather.
Friday April 9
Algy ceases to be a Lance Corporal in Herts Yeomanry and is gazetted 2nd lieut in the Lothian and Border Horse.
Monday May 31
Everyone left early – Beatrix before eight to do Red Cross work at Wych Cross where there are now 50 soldiers.
