In the 18th century, horse racing was popular among the county elite. At Brocket Hall a race course was created on the estate, and this beautiful map shows its course, complete with finishing flags. Brocket Hall, built in 1760, and home to two British Prime Ministers, Lord Melbourne and Lord Palmerston, continues its sporting tradition today as a golf course.
