The Lasting Legacy of John Bennet Lawes

The story of John Bennet Lawes (1814-1900)English Entrepreneur and Agricultural Scientist who developed the first patented artificial fertiliser. His work on  his estate at Rothamsted Harpenden helped prevent famine by increasing crop yields in Britain when population growth was increasing.  He ensured the research continued at Rothamsted by setting up the Lawes Agricultural Trust. The estate remains at the forefront of agricultural research to this day.

Techniques used: stitched faux chenille and beading for fields; patchwork, photo-transfer images and free motion embroidery for animals and other images.  Each section framed in black to give a fabric ‘stained glass window’.
