The New River- Then, How and Now

This triptych shows maps of the New River when it was dug in 1613 and as it was 400 years later in 2013, straightened, shortened and with a huge growth in population in London and the Lea Valley. Words on the central panel describe this amazing engineering feat – all dug by hand. Hand and machine stitched with blue silk applique lakes, and built-up areas of fabric printed from an original HCC archive document. Hand lettered.
