  • I worked in the Cheshunt Sawmill, London office, Broad Street place, as secretary to Mr. Miller, from approx 1959 to 1961.
I moved to Canada in 1964.

  • My father, Geoffery Read, worked for the sawmill from March 1954 until 1983 and in the photograph he is fairly certain that the shorter of the two men in suits is the boss’ brother, Erwin Miller. (I typed his name as Owen but Dad reiterated that it was Erwin, so I wonder if transcriptions in the past have had similar issues.). Their original surname was Muller (with two dots over the u) and they fled from Germany during the persecution of the Jews during the Second World War.
Is there anything to give this photograph a date?

  • My ancestor, Sampson Crouch, moved form Hertford to Windmill Street in the 1840’s. He was a sawyer so he probably worked in this saw mill. I am delighted to find out where it was situated.
