Hatfield Mayor Lynne Sparks (2015-2016 Term)

Former Mayor of Hatfield, Councillor Lynne Sparks.

Councillor Lynne Sparks has lived in Hatfield with her family since 1997. Lynne and her husband Ian have three grown up children including a disabled daughter, and works at the Environment Agency as a Flood Risk Management Business Planner based in Hatfield.

Lynne supports a number of local charities and community organisations and is currently a Dementia Friends Champion.

Elected in 2010 and again in 2011 and 2015 to represent Hatfield Villages ward, Lynne lead a successful Portas Pilot bid for Hatfield in 2012 and obtained funding for the subway mural in Hatfield and creation of a two week Hatfest Arts & Culture Festival in 2013 that has grown into an annual programme of arts and culture events in the town.

Lynne has been Vice Chairman of the Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee, a member of the Hackney Carriage Committee and Cabinet Housing and Planning Panel.

In 2010, Lynne received an award from the Hertfordshire Police Authority for her role working in partnership with the Herts Police Hatfield Villages Safer Neighbourhood Team and Hertfordshire University to reduce antisocial behaviour in Hatfield. In 2012 she was honoured to receive a Special Recognition Award from Howe Dell School and Children’s Centre for her commitment, inspiration and positive impact on children and families.

As Mayor this year, Lynne is hoping to raise money and the profile of her chosen charity, Resolve. The Mayor will also be hosting two fund-raising events for Hertfordshire Branch of the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS).
