Fun Palace Drop In Workshop
Ros Cloke
As part of Hitchin’s Fun Palace celebrations, Saturday 2nd October was Sophie’s first workshop for the visitors to Hitchin Library.
All customers, young and old, were given the opportunity to create a unique portrait. There was a combination of self portraits, portraits of family members and loved ones and even one or two pets appeared in the mix!
During a quiet few minutes Sophie gave me some top tips on how to draw a face ensuring all the features were in proportion. I then had a go at a continuous line drawing and the end result looked quite a bit like my Grandad!
We were all encouraged to write some words about the person we had drawn and then the really clever bit started…
We recorded our words, phrases or sentence into a laptop and, with the help of some aluminium tape, a Makey Makey and Scratch, when we touched the picture it spoke to us!
Children of all ages enjoyed being creative and using art to explore what important people in their lives meant to them.
