I have been fortunate enough to have a look over this pillbox when Lea valley parks were clearing vegetation. I am by no means an expert but I believe it to be a CRE 1113 Type 22 variant which, along with several others of various types, was built along the natural stop line of the river. If you go downstream between Pindar car park and Waltham Common lock you can see an old anti-arcraft battery on the offside with a very intersting info board on the tow-path.

Hi,
there were many forts along both the River Lea and other waterways to protect them in the event of enemy bombing during WWII.
