Looking for information on Radwell Rectory and boarding school Baldock

Search for more information in my father, Ernest Mynors Wallis, known as John Mynors Wallis in the 1921 Census, who was a boarder at Radwell Rectory Baldock, Radwell, Bygrave, Hertfordshire, England.

The person making the Census return was Revd H P Waller, School Master and Rector of Rediwell (is that place name an error in transcribing perhaps?)

Born in 1907 in Brighton, Sussex, my father was 14 years and 3 months of age at the time of the census.
At school, he enjoyed playing football, tennis and cricket despite having a disability with running due to a childhood injury.

Can you please advise me of the best place to start a search for his school records?

The attached photo shows my father standing outside the church where he told us of how he helped to pump the organ. I believe the church is the Church of All Saints Radwell.

The other photo is of his Boarding School. Photos taken in 1963

Thank you,
Kind Regards,
Jean Gradwell

  • Hello Jean
I have been searching for my father who was also at Radwell School, and have asked questions of local groups to no avail.

I have a book of Tennyson’s poems which Dad received in 1924 …”Ralph Beeton, Prize for Arithmetic, College of Preceptors, Exam: July 1924, at Radwell Rectory School” signed H.P. Waller. so I have proof he was there. He was born in 1910.

I’d be happy to communicate with you and it would be great if we could put out heads together and get some answers.

    Many thainks
