Creativity and sustainability for the Platinum Jubilee

Managing activities in a day service for adults with learning disabilities is a very busy but hugely rewarding and fun job.

Our upcycling group came up with the idea of making vintage cake stands to sell, with the idea that they could be used by their friends and family to have tea parties in honour of the Platinum Jubilee. They were given a small budget to go around local charity shops to purchase old china, and they put a ‘shout out’ on social media for donations of china, which has also supported their learning about sustainability. They enjoyed the whole process of going out together, sourcing and choosing lots of mixed -matched items and putting the beautiful stands together.

We are keeping a few of the stands, as we are holding our own Platinum Jubilee garden party with many friends in honour of Her Majesty The Queen.
