Jack Plumley

Olympic cycling hopeful

As a member of Welwyn Wheelers Cycling Club, the same club where Olympic and World Champion Laura Trott first began cycling, Jack has been competing nationally for a number of years and is now on the British Cycling Olympic Development Programme.

Jack competes in several disciplines of cycling including track, road, cyclocross and omnium and is the current Under 14 National Track Champion. Proving his strength across all disciplines he also recently won the title of Under 14 Youth Omnium Champion at the Scottish Track Championships. Omnium being a multiple race event on the track which includes a points race, an elimination race, an individual pursuit and a time trial.

The Scottish Track Championships took place at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow and featured the Olympic Champion himself.

Since being selected for the programme Jack has attended weekly strength and conditioning sessions at Performance Hertfordshire to help develop the strength needed for speed on the track in order to get ahead of his competitors.

In addition to his training programme Jack has also attended workshops in Sport Psychology, Injury Prevention and Anti-Doping in sport atHertfordshire Sports Village.

Jack’s goals over the next few years include winning the national track and road championships in his age group and being selected for the British Cycling Talent Team Academy which supports the top 5 cyclists in the UK. As for future plans Jack is keen to make cycling his profession and if he follows in the footsteps of his fellow Welwyn Wheelers alumna he will see this through.

The programme is supported by the University of Hertfordshire, Herts County Council, Hertfordshire Is Ready For Winners and Lee Valley Regional Park Authority.
