My Olympic Memory

Taking part in the Opening Ceremony

Pauline King

In November 2011 I received my first notification that I was through to the next audition for the Opening Ceremony and then finally I received an email which said congratulations!   The journey began in February 2012 with the first rehearsal!  They continued every week until the Opening Ceremony. One of the most exciting times of my life!   Every rehearsal, wherever it was held, was interesting and fascinating.   People from all walks of life were there and lifelong friendships were formed.   In fact, we still get together now and long may this continue.

On the night of the opening, the atmosphere can only be described as electric!   People had tears in their eyes as they waited to go into the stadium.   This emotion was a mixture of “I cannot believe I am here” and a strong patriotic feeling.  It was wonderful.   The music of “Nimrod” will never be forgotten as this the piece which was playing before we made our entrance.   I even get goosebumps now if I hear that music.   What a night and what a memory!
