Photo of The War Memorial, Berkhamsted taken from The Court Cinema.

By John Halsey

A picture of Berkhamsted War Memorial taken in the 1950s from beside the projectionist room at The Court Cinema where my Uncle Bill Halsey was working at that time. My Grand-mother’s brother, George Hulatt, is recorded on the memorial. He was killed in WW11.

  • A lovely old photo, but I was puzzled till I read that the memorial was relocated in about 1952 to outside St Peter’s Church. The Court Cinema was on the site of what is now the Tesco Supermarket, so this photo is from Water Lane, across the high street (in the top left corner you can see the Civic Centre) with the memorial in it’s original location outside what is now Costa Coffee.
