In Hillcrest Baldock, we had a party on the green. The children had races and my husband and I judged the Fancy Dress competition, followed by a celebration tea. For the children in the evening we had a barbeque, a raffle and a quiz. We had bunting everywhere and sat in friendly groups with plenty of wine and music. Happy days.

Mr Balls (Mick) did indeed do a lot of the organising for the Jubilee and subsequent parties on the green which continued on an ad hoc basis, although I don’t think we’ve had one for about 10 years now. He recently passed away having lived in Hillcrest throughout. A real community stalwart and a popular neighbour.
I was there! I was 8 and lived at no 28. I remember the hotdogs. Wasn’t it organised by Mr Ball who lived down by the green at the bottom of Hillcrest?
