The County Secondary School, Baldock 1960

John Wheeler

Three images which make up the panoramic photo taken in 1960 while I attended Baldock Secondary School. Halcyon days indeed. Teachers I remember are Mr Lennox, Mrs Hancock, Mr Fisher, Freda Hyman (my form mistress, wrote a book “ who’s for the North) bless her. I remember all the other teachers and pupils but sadly I don’t recall their names ( 60+ years ago is a long time.)

  • I remember learning to swim in the freezing Kayser Bondor pool. The science master Mr Fisher had worked on the trans siberian train and could recite the names of every station in order ending with Vladivistok. He had a bristly moustache.
Remember Miss Hancock who liked finely-knitted red dresses. Excellent teacher.

  • Came across this whilst trawling, I reckon my deceased mother (Pat Higham/Dyson) is in this picture and would love confirmation.

I was born in ’63 so predates me by a couple of years.
