Making bird feeders

Theme

Guides have always been involved with their communities, but during the 1980s, the Guides began to go green, with their Adopt and Cherish environmental project.  Communities further afield were also helped by Guides’ direct action with charities such as Save the Children and UNICEF.

Challenge: Complete an environmentally friendly activity

The girls made a bird feeders out of recycled materials.  They each had a plastic bottle into which was cut a “doorway”.  They added wire to hang it up, a stick for the birds to perch on and they all decorated them with coloured paints.  They all took away bird food to fill the feeder and hang in their gardens when they got home.

Thanks to everyone who collected all the plastic bottles for this task
