Letchworth Invasion Plan circa 1941

Geoff Cordingley

From 1941 each town and village was instructed to form a committee to draw up a plan of action in case the country was invaded.  One of the main aims of the leaflet was to prevent panic.  Below is the anti-invasion plan for Letchworth Garden City.

Secret plans were drawn up designating an area where soldiers and Home Guard personnel would make a last stand against the invaders, code named “Inner Keep”.  Letchworth’s inner keep would have been the Spirela factory!
