  • near the end of WW2, the owners took on looking after about 10 European children affected by the war. They dug a swimming pool where the car park now is, and had a pet donkey . The BBC made a documentary film about this.

Redbourn House, demolished in the sixties, and just south of the Red House, was also connected to the Bowes Lyon family, and the Queen Mother was seen there as a child paddling in the garden pond.

  • Red House is once again a family home having been lovingly restored and converted back from offices. There is a large kitchen dinner and six reception rooms on the ground floor. An elegant sweeping Georgian staircase takes you to the first floor. At first floor there are five bedrooms and two bathrooms, on the second floor a further four bedrooms and two bathrooms. With two cellars, two courtyards, a walled garden, triple garage and parking for ten cars it really is a mansion in a village centre setting. The original two floors are Georgian from 1775 with the second floor and gallery added by Lady Glamis in the 1800’s. A real piece of architectural evolution with all the convenience of modern technology.
