This wonderful picture of Bill Quick’s great great grandfather, who worked the watercress beds from Harpenden Lane to The Osiers, Redbourn. He died in 1886. Note his leather leggings, which in those days was kept supple with the use of animal fat. Bill Quick lived at East Common, and was the father of Laura ‘Lolly’.
