Lea Valley YHA

Information point

White water canoe centre

I just went down to Lea Valley YHA, past Cheshunt Station down Windmill Lane. It is open between 9.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m. and gives information about the construction site, there is an information point with leaflets to take away.

If you have nothing to do at the weekend it would be great to take a look at, but I personally think you could find more info on a PC in the library. I had no idea what to expect but was not best pleased to see an information point that reminds me of the information point you can find down at Waltham Cross Bus Station. Still worth a look if you are curious.

  • I remember the swimming pool very well from the 60s. We used to be taken with the school, till I went to Cheshunt Grammar which had its own pool, but I also went independently quite a bit. Lovely in hot weather, less lovely when it was cold.

There was also a sailing base on the nearby lake/gravel-pit, and I did some sailing there with the school for a couple of years.

  • As I am now in my mid eigthies and left Waltham Cross when I was 21 I recently took a trip down memory lane including Windmill Lane and found the Y H A
Sadly no one had any knowledge about the old swimming baths on or near this site, as school children we were taken there no matter what the weather.
During the war a land mine decended by parachute
one night and demolished the wooden dressing rooms, these were hastily re-erected minus the roof
but we still had to go come rain or shine brrrr.
