Some old snaps of my grandfather Edward Sidney Scoot of Baldock. He was one of many Siblings. Including Tom Spritely? His aunt and then sister? were landlady at the white horse pub in the town.
He worked in the building trade initially and at the brewery and latterly became a moulder working at Letchworth Casting Company. He Married Mary Sarle of Stotfold? and had two children Phyllis Mary Scoot(Latterly married to Douglas Gifford, Driving Instructor of Letchworth) and Derek Bryan Scoot. His Grandson and great grandson still live in the town.

  • I really couldn’t say if E S Scoot was related. None of the christian names you mention ring any bells.

  • I wonder if Edward was possibly a cousin of my Great Grandad Alfred Smith. His Mother Ellen (my great- great grandmother) was originally from Weston and her maiden name was Scoot. Alfred was born in Clothall and moved to Baldock living in Prospect Terrace in Clothall Road. After serving in the Boer War, he married my Great Grand Mother Kate nee Hough and they moved round the corner to Clarkes Lane now South Road. They had 9 children the youngest Joan being my Grandmother.
