Threads of Time

Progress?

By Jennifer Ayto

It is years since I have done any tapestry and this project seemed ideal to get me working on something.

I hope to reflect the weather diary, the seasons of the year and Rothamsted’s contribution to food production but it has to be small and within my limited (and rusty) skills.

Under the guise of “planning”, I did some drawing, found my frame, work-basket and sorted cottons. (I think that procrastination would be a better description than planning).

However, I have now made a start by trying to capture something that might have a passing resemblance to Autumn/Winter…. just need to fill in the rest!

(Should have started in the middle of the canvas, but I am not sure what should be there – however – a start).

  • I agree with you about the horse – I hope to reward it with all the hay it can eat when I move onto Summer!

  • that looks like a really good start – ploughing the field to prepare for growing the next crop, how appropriate – the horse looks as though it has had a very long day! i find that the planning (and procrastinating!) stage is a useful part of the process – it gives me a chance to get my ideas worked out, sorting threads and other materials is a lovely soothing activity which calms my muddled thoughts – i hope it does the same for you
