Olympic Torch Relay

When, where and who

The Olympic Torch relay came through Letchworth on Sunday, 8th July,2012.   Day 51 of 70, when the torch took the route:

  • Cambridge
  • St Ives
  • Huntingdon
  • Bedford
  • Cotton End
  • Letchworth Garden City
  • Stevenage
  • Welwyn Garden City
  • Hatfield
  • St Albans
  • Hemel Hempstead
  • Luton

The Flame arrived, in transit, at Norton, from the A507, at a little after 11:30.   The Torch was was lit near the Three Horseshoes and then carried along:

  • Norton Road
  • Norton Way North
  • Station Road
  • Eastcheap
  • Gernon Road
  • Norton Way South
  • Pixmore Way

It finished in Pixmore Way at about 12:10, near the junction with Ridge Avenue and The Crescent.   The Flame left, in transit, for Stevenage via Letchworth Gate.

Carrying the Flame in St Albans was John Eastwell (81) from Letchworth.
