Making Memories Celebration Event

Saturday 5th March 2011

To celebrate the success of the Making Memories project an event was held at Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies at County Hall in Hertford on Saturday 5 March 2011.

The Herts Memories website has been going strong since its launch in January 2010, with thousands of pages contributed by people from all over Hertfordshire. Eight further sites dedicated to specific communities around the county are also up and running and ready to take your contributions:

Each website in the network has a team of volunteers who publish the contributions and maintain and develop the sites. At the event they were all on hand to demonstrate their sites and show people how to submit contributions. The websites have been designed so that even computer novices find them easy to use. Each website had a table with a small exhibition dedicated to it, showcasing its content so far.

The video booth

A ‘video booth’ was borrowed from the University of Hertfordshire for the day to film people talking about their life in Hertfordshire. A constant stream of people were filmed answering questions about their memories of school, work and play in Herts. The results will be available to view on this site soon.

Voice recording

Some people also recorded their memories to be made into audio clips for the website.

Share your stories

Anyone can add their memories, photographs and stories about their life in Hertfordshire – they are archives for the whole community! You can also contribute articles about local history or add your comments about anything already on the sites.

More to see

The Local Studies Library also had themed displays including original documents from the archives.

If you would like to join the team of volunteers to help develop these websites please contact us.
