2nd July 1860 

Very fine and hot. We were at work at home. G. Dann walked to Watton. Pris and Emma very queer. Pris went to Hertingfordbury with DB I went cricketing at night and down to DB. Club night I and Joe paid up. Very hot night and fine.  

3rd July 1860

Very fine and hot. We went to Upton to play at cricket we beat by 39. I was very tired. DB came up here. I went part the way home with her. We got home at 9. Emma very sadly. Very fine night.  

7th July 1860

Very fine and hot. Father drove Emma and Lilla to Watton. DB went to Tolmers to Mrs Middlemass’s. We were fixing Pike Cousin’s tomb. In St. Andrews Cemetary worked till 7. Very fine night. I was tired.  

10th July 1860

Very fine and cool. We were at home. Father went to Watton. We fetched a case of marble from rail. The Judge came in for Assises. I went cricketing at night.Mr Laugher was here till past 11.  

17th July 1860

Showery and very hot. We were at work at home. Father went to London, had not come hom at 11 at night. I had a letter from G. Dann at Harlow, and DB at Tolmers, I wrote back to her. We had a letter from Aunt Charlotte and Aunt Mary.  

19th July 1860

Very showery and hot. Thundered and lightned very much. I was stiff. The Ragged School children had tea in the Corn Exchange. Emma had tea at Mrs Errington’s. I went down to see DB mother. Fine night.
