What is this?

Mystery document

By Eva Cantin

Other members took photos but did anyone make a note of what it is?

This is one of the documents we were shown on our second visit, downstairs in the archive. I am using it as one of my sources and I know that at least two other participants have been referring to it as well, so it would be helpful if we could identify it.

Lizzie and I thought it was the brewery deeds document (DE/Lw/T98) but when we saw them on a later visit the brewery deeds were completely different. Was it in the scrapbook?

A bit of online research indicates that the “Jacobus” which starts the document refers to James 1 (and VI), not Jacob Wittewronge as I first thought. This dates it as 1603-1625 and identifies it as an official document I suppose.

I also found this image of Anna Wittewronge’s letter of denization (DE/Lw/F7) online. It’s the right dates but not the same document.
