Translating Stories into Music and Song

On Saturday 25th September, Stevenage Library hosted the first in our autumn programme of My Story Creator Days. The two sessions – Translating stories into Song and Translating stories into Music – gave attendees the opportunity to work with folk singer Lizzy Hardingham and music producer Joseph Suddick to tap into their creativity whilst learning new skills.

Supporting young people in developing their skills is a key aim of the My Story project: one participant, studying music at school, was able to create four music tracks using his interest in beats and technical knowledge he acquired during the session.

Another of the attendees crafted a song after her own memories were triggered by a story, The Sheepskin Jacket,  that was written during our My Story Creative Writing workshops earlier in the year: a great example of how the different aspects of My Story link together.

  • Hello My Story Team & Herts Memories,
I wanted to write and say the Translating Stories Into Music And Song was for me, a great creative day.
I am so glad I attended and participated, as like looking at Art on a wall, I did not know I would be so inspired by another My Story Participants words, I felt at the time in writing the lines and words for my song, I was able to weave in and share my own similar fabric of life experiences, I felt this esp. in my emotions as I sung the words live in class.
Thank You My Story Team & Thank You Lizzy for your help and patience.
A great day to remember for a long time to come.
