Workhouse records can be an invaluable source for researching Disability history.
An extract from Barley Parish records, dated January 1800 from the ‘Lists of people receiving the Poor’s Money’,  gives some details of age, infirmities, number of children, and accounts of money received for 1787 – 1800.
For example, some of the details gleaned from this document include: Stephen Chapman is listed as having 3 children, one of whom has fits and John Jackson “[Lives with his uncle at Hauxton Mills has lately broke his arm and just left Addenbroke’s Hospital]
