Broxbourne participated in the London 2012 Handover event by raising the London 2012 Olympic flag on Sunday 24 August at Cheshunt Park Golf Course, Park Lane, Cheshunt to celebrate the moment when London became the official Olympic Games host.

The London Olympic handover flag was raised in Cheshunt by the Mayor of the Borough of Broxbourne, Councillor Mrs Carol Crump-Eynon and Lloyd Upsdell winner of two gold medals at the Sydney 2000 Paralympics in the 100m and 200m and one bronze medal in the 200m in Athens 2004.

The handover event co-incided with a Let’s GO Play event at Cheshunt Park for children and their families.

  • Captured in the third photo is a young Laura Trott before she became famous for her gold medals in cycling at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics. She is standing immediately to the right of Paralympian Lloyd Upsdell. Laura was raised in Cheshunt and was invited as a recipient of Broxbourne Council’s Opportunities for Excellence grants for talented young athletes.
