Along with many other Ware residents, I leant to swim in the baby pool when I was about 6 years old.  We used to go there a lot in the summer and would be there all day eating ice creams from the little kiosk (which is still open). The big pool always had dead wasps in it and the bottom was really rough and you’d cut your feet.  It’s usually open for a short time in the summer and the diving boards have long gone.

  • Thanks so much for uploading this photo. In my childhood days the poor place was further downgraded in name to “Ware Baths” in the 1940s and early 1950s! But it was THE place to go. (By the way, I don’t think the phrase “swimming pool” was even heard of in those times!)

  • Apologies for the pedantry but it was never called a lido in the 1950s or 60s. It was always just “the swmming pool”.

  • This great photo coincides with the Lido opening next week – 3 weeks earlier this year than usual – on Saturday 11th June. We hope to see many people there this summer!
